Maybe you want to save some cash or you might be like me with a 1 year old daughter at home and can’t go to the salon for a manicure as you used to. whatever your case, with a few simple steps and the right tools, you can give yourself a professional-looking manicure without ever leaving your house. In this blog post, we’ll provide tips on how to give yourself an amazing manicure step-by-step from the comfort of your own home.
Step #1. Clean your nails with nail polish remover
As the professionals do, spend time taking care of your nails before getting into polishing them. So, now begin by removing any existing nail polish with an acetone-free remover, so that your nails don’t get dried out. do this process first even if you don’t have nail polish on before so that you clean your nails of excess oil or dirt.

Step#2. Clip, File and Buff
This is an important step to make your nails just right. Get your nail clippers first and clip your nails to your desired length. If you don’t have length in your nails skip this part. Then shape your nail using a nail filer. You can shape your tips from square and round shape to anything in between that you want to achieve. But remember not to file in a back and forth motion as you might be damaging your nail bed. Instead, use one swift motion while filling. Then buff the nails to smooth out any ridges but be careful not to buff too much as it might damage the nails. Maximum 6 strokes of buffing is enough.

Step #3. Soak your Nails and Brush them
Now get a bowl of warm water and add liquid soap or your favourite shampoo. Now soak your nails in it for about 3 minutes then start brushing your nails and underneath your nails with a manicure brush. This will clean out any dirt from your nails and preps your cuticles for the next step. Then, wash the laser off your hands and dry your hands with a towel.
Step #4. Push back your cuticles
By now your cuticles are soft and manageable. Take your cuticle pusher and gently push your cuticles backward until they appear as a thin line on your nails. Our nail cuticles protects the nail from bacteria and fungi from getting in so avoid cutting your cuticles.
Step #5. Moisturise your hands and cuticles
Now apply a moisturising hand and cuticle lotion and massage your hands and around your cuticles as it keeps your hands and nails hydrated. Enjoy the mini-massage on your hands, you deserve it ;). Now to finish this process, swipe each nail with a nail polish remover as nail polish wont adhere to residue.
Step #6. Apply a base coat
Don’t rush to apply your nail polish just yet. applying a base coat is usually skipped but applying a base coat first protects and hydrates your nails and locks nail polish stain from staining your nails. So you get the point now, apply your base coat and let it dry for 2 minutes.
Step #7. Apply your first coat of nail polish
Now apply your first coat of nail polish. keep the brush in a thin layer of polish and get the brush all the way from the cuticle to the bottom of the nail giving it maximum coverage as you can. But of course we don’t expect the nail polish to come poppin just yet. Then dry your nails for about two minutes again.
Step #8. Apply your second coat of nail polish
Now for the moment of truth, apply the second coat of nail polish. This should pop the color of the nail polish. But incase, the nail polish you are using is very thin, you might want to go for a third coat. But mostly two layers of coat will be just perfect. Then dry your nails for 2 minutes.
Step #9. Finish off with a top coat
Finally, apply a thin layer of a top coat to keep everything together and popping. This top coat will protect your manicure from chipping and gives your nails shine. It will also increase the lifespan of your nail polish. Now dry your nails for 2 minutes.
Step #10. Clean edges with nail polish remover pen
For a more polished finish, clean the edges of your nail of excess nail polish using a nail polish remover pen. Congrats on giving your self a professional manicure at home!
