As someone who has struggled with split ends, I know how frustrating it can be to constantly have to trim your hair. Not only does it mean shorter hair, but it can also feel like you’re never making any progress in terms of hair growth. That’s why I’ve turned to DIY hair masks as a natural way to nourish my hair and prevent split ends.
There are different reasons that cause split ends. The major once are friction, over combing and shampooing, hair styling techniques such as excessive blow drying, straightening, curling and sometimes exposing to extreme weather condition.
Here are some of my favorite DIY hair masks for split ends:
Banana, Honey and Olive Oil Mask
One of my favorite hair masks is the banana, honey, and olive oil mask. It’s super easy to make and leaves my hair feeling soft and nourished. Simply mash up one ripe banana until it’s completely smooth and then mix in one tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of olive oil. Apply the mixture to your hair, focusing on the ends, and let it sit for 30 minutes before washing it out with shampoo.Â
Coconut oil, Almond Oil and Avocado Mask
Another favorite of mine is the coconut, almond, and avocado oil mask. This mask is perfect for those with dry, damaged hair as it helps to moisturize and nourish your locks. Mix together two tablespoons of coconut oil, one tablespoon of almond oil, and one mashed avocado in a bowl. Apply the mixture to your hair and let it sit for 20-30 minutes before rinsing with shampoo.Â
Egg and Yogurt Mask
If you’re looking for a protein-packed mask to strengthen your hair, the egg and yogurt mask is a great option. Eggs are high in protein which helps to strengthen hair and prevent breakage while yogurt contains lactic acid that helps to gently exfoliate and cleanse the scalp. Simply beat one or two eggs in a bowl and mix in half a cup of plain yogurt. Apply the mixture to your hair, focusing on the roots, and let it sit for 15-20 minutes before washing it out with shampoo.Â
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has been a favorite in the world of hair care for a while now, and it’s no wonder why. This magic ingredient works wonders for both your hair and scalp. It’s not only great for moisturizing dry hair; it also helps to soothe an itchy or flaky scalp. It’s packed with fatty acids that penetrate the hair shaft and help to restore its natural shine and luster. Plus, it smells amazing!Â
